OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) is seeking members to join its Whistleblower Protection Advisory Committee.
Six positions are available on Dec. 1, 2016 and OSHA is accepting nominations for management, labor and the public. Those six new members will serve a two-year term on a 12-member committee.
According to OSHA, the committee was formed to provide insights to the secretary of labor and the assistant secretary for occupational safety and health on ways to improve the fairness, efficiency, effectiveness and transparency of OSHA’s whistleblower protection activities.
The nomination deadline is May 31, 2016, and nominations can be submitted to www.regulations.gov, as well as mail or fax.

Contractor Cited After Worker Killed Falling Through Skylight
OSHA cited a contractor for failing to protect workers from tripping or falling into an unguarded skylight.
The contractor also faces a fine of $54,000 because of the incident in which an HVAC installer suffered a fatal fall through a roof skylight.
While one citation was issued for not protecting workers, a second citation was issued for failing to report a fatality to OSHA within eight hours.

Feed Mill Fined for Putting Worker Safety At Risk
A feed mill was cited by OSHA for several violations, which put workers at risk for falls, grain dust and machine hazards.
As a result, the mill owner faces fines of $40,200.
An OSHA inspection revealed: workers were exposed to fall hazards 6-10 feet from ladderway floor openings and platforms lacking guardrails; employees were exposed to grain dust explosion hazards, and the employer didn’t implement housekeeping procedures to prevent grain dust accumulation; workers were exposed to dangerous sudden machine starts because the company didn’t annually inspect and test energy control procedures.
