OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) will hold its annual National Safety Stand-Down from May 2-6. The purpose of the event is to spread awareness to construction workers about the dangers of falls.

Employers are encouraged by OSHA, the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, and the Center for Construction Research and Training, to offer training and education about fall hazards and prevention during the Stand-Down.

Roofing Contractor Cited For Fall Hazards

A roofing contractor faces proposed fines of $43,080 for exposing workers to fall hazards and failing to provide proper fall protection to workers.

OSHA began its investigation of the contractor after a worker fell from a warehouse roof, and later succumbed to injuries suffered in the fall.

This isn’t the first violation for the contractor, which was cited for a similar violation in 2011 and was cited 10 times since 2000 for similar offenses.

Steel Foundry Faces Fines for Not Protecting Workers

A steel foundry faces fines of $90,000 from OSHA after exposing workers to the risk of chemical burns, fire, lacerations, amputations, electric shock, and more injuries.

In all, the company was cited for 20 serious violations. OSHA had previously cited the company for two serious violations related to inadequate fall protection equipment and an unprotected table saw. Proposed fines for these previous violations totaled $14,000.
